The immediate goal of the project is informative, focusing on the following aspects: an historical overview of the Tar Ponds; the Health issues; and Technology and Cleanup issues.

The project was realized by gathering information from the following sources: SERL (Sydney Environmental Resources Ltd.), interviews with a representative of the municipal government, JAG (Joint Action Group ), an environmentalist, a concerned resident of Frederick Street (an area adjacent to Muggah Creek), the Internet, and a guided tour of the tar ponds and the incinerator site. The guided tour also provided a very detailed information package.

The study group wishes to acknowledge the cooperation shown by the people concerned especially those involved in interviews and the guided tour.
