Language
The Micmac Language is one of the most important aspect of the Micmac culture. The diversity and the complexity of the language can only be appreciate through the study of its history and its development. The scope of Micmac language developments begins with La Clerq and hieroglyphics to the present day orthography completed in 1980 known as Francis/Smith system. It is our elders, our mothers, our fathers, our young people and our children. It is our language, beliefs, values, morals and principles. It is our stories and our legends. It is our relationship with our Mother Earth, time, and space. It is the inter-connectedness of all these which makes us who we are, Mi'kma'w people.
