Integration
Integration of native children into the public school
system came about when First nation leaders realized that there were
some benefits to be gained from the euro-Canadian model of education.
They demanded a model of education that would put their children on
an equal footing with those students attending public schools. At this
time many First Nations people saw the education provided by native
schools as inferior.
