ACTIVITY 3 — TEXT SETS
Generally, it's helpful to read more than one text on
an unfamiliar topic. That way you have the opportunity
to benefit from more than one author's take on the topic.
The following two items are intended to be read together,
immediately after one another. First read the Downhole
Heave Compensator, then immediately read the excerpt from
Sarah Andrews novel Tensleep. Forget about the questions
at the end of the Downhole Heave Compensator for now.
Next, reread the Downhole Heave Compensator. This time
try answering the questions. If you need to, reread Tensleep.
Now, try exploring the meaning of some of the unfamiliar
terms in the Downhole Heave Compensator by using the chart
included after the two texts.
How does this activity help you think about your students'
reading differently?
