In Our Own Words is an anthology of poetry
written by teachers attending writing seminars, summer institutes,
professional inservices, and workshops in Nova Scotia, elsewhere
in Canada, and at several locations in the USA. The poems evolved
out of a collaborative writing context where people helped one another
talk out ideas and feelings, wiped one another's tears, and then
celebrated their accomplishments. In the process of writing what
are in many cases their first poems, the teachers discovered that
to be effective teachers of writing, they, too, must be writers.
